 Time overdue to open Schools in Kashmir : G N Var 


Schools for more than 168 million children globally have been completely closed for almost more than  year and half  due to COVID-19 lockdowns, according to  data released  by UNICEF. 
In Kashmir too now calls of opening schools are growing . 
The Mirror of Kashmir recently took an opportunity to talk with G N Var President  Private Schools' Association of J&K (PSAJK) ,an important face of our education sector. He talked with our correspondent Rameez Makhdoomi.

Has time come to open schools ?
Time has come long back to open our schools .Few Days back I was in Capital Delhi to attend a conference on same issue and we came to know that many States of India are now planning to open back the school's while some have already opened the schools and unfortunately we have no talk of opening schools in Jammu and Kashmir from Government side. Secondly , if a child can roam freely in public parks and picnic spots with following any SOPs what is wrong in attending schools wherein SOPs are followed religiously . Thirdly , we need to remember that prestigious global bodies like UNICEF, UNESCO have already stated that schools should be last to closed and first to open while as in our part of the world is is vice versa as they are closed first and even in distant times we dont know when they will be opened .
What is the feedback you get from Parents and Childrens?
The Parents and Children of Kashmir are much disturbed and distressed. As being in home for years now is causing them depression and trauma. Nothing can compete the real School learning as studies show one month off from School hurts two month learning of a Child .
What is your take on Online classes ?
Online Classes are the last resort as according to studies they can hardly match upto 30 percent or less to the real School learning, so you can well understand the bleak realities .
How far can schools in our part of the world follow SOPs ?
The school is the only place wherein we can follow hundred percent SOPs like masks and sanitizers. The SOPs followed in Schools are far better even then in homes and public places. Plus Schools are symbol of discipline and training child for future . The schools can also resort to Gender vise, Phase vise, Batch vise teaching to ensure maximum Precautions. There is no place best than School wherein we see SOPs followed in letter and spirit. When parents have to mend or discipline there kids they sight them examples of Sir or Madam of school. We have ample arrangements of masks and sanitizers in schools.
